We distribute clothing, hygiene products, shoes, and blankets each Monday, 9:00-10:30 am to anyone who needs them from the Grace Room in Hope Hall. During the cold month of January, we are in need of blankets. Anyone who has blankets to share is encouraged to bring them on Sunday mornings, during office hours (M, T, W, & F 9:00 am-12:00 pm), or at a time negotiated with a staff member.
CALL (Confirmation Among Local Lutherans)
During December, CALL participants meet on Sundays, January 5 at Celebration Lutheran Church (8726 W Olive Avenue, Peoria, AZ) and January 19 at Grace in Hope Hall.
January Wilbur Designations
During January, Wilbur the Pig is receiving monetary donations for ELCA World Hunger and non-perishable food donations for the Mount of Olives Food Closet. You may bring your food donations to Sunday morning worship or to the church office. Specifically, the food closet is in need of:
Plastic Spoons
Plastic Forks
Plastic Knives
Soup Cans with a pop top
Plastic Grocery Bags
However, all non-perishable food donations are much appreciated! The food closet distributes food to around 100 households each Thursday. Only about 10-12 of those people do not have a fridge/freezer/place to cook, so the food closet volunteers make special on-the-go bags for those guests. That is how the closet uses soups, plastic ware, and bags.
Spiritual Adventurers' Team Building
We are excited to prepare for our spiritual adventure to Wilderness Canoe Base in northern Minnesota! For those going on the trip, part of our covenant to one another is participation in all team building sessions as listed in the covenant. Our next team building hike is Sunday, January 12 at 12:30 pm. We will meet in Hope Hall and carpool to Dreamy Draw Recreation Area for a hike.
Upcoming parking lot fundraisers: Monday, January 20 for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and Saturday, January 25 for Tacolandia. Please put these on your calendars, Spiritual Adventurers!
Grace Lutheran On Wednesdays (GLOW) Update
During the first part of 2020 with the exception of Lent, we will explore the theme Confounding Our Expectations: Rereading Familiar Biblical Stories in GLOW (Grace Lutheran On Wednesdays). Each week, we will welcome a person of faith from outside our community who comes from a different tradition to share their perspective on familiar biblical stories and characters.
Each Wednesday, doors open at 5:15 pm. Dinner begins at 5:30 pm. Study begins at 6:15 pm and concludes by 7:15 pm. Please come and participate! Volunteers are also welcome to come and serve the meal and clean the kitchen later.
ELCA Model Constitution Changes
At our annual meeting on Sunday, January 26, we will be voting on changes to the model constitution for congregations of the ELCA, including, of course, Grace. Copies of the changes are available in both Hope Hall and the Sanctuary narthex as well as by emailing Pastor Sarah.
Grace Annual Meeting
Harvest Brunch on Sunday, January 12 @ 9:45 am
Last year, True North gifted us the Garden of Grace on the south side of our property. Agave Farms, a local landscaping company, installed the garden.
To learn more about their vision, Agave Farms invites us to a brunch at Grace on Sunday, January 12 at 9:45 am in Hope Hall. The meal will include some of the food grown in our own backyard, and our conversation will center around how we might make better use of our land to feed ourselves and our neighbors who are hungry.
Sunday Breakfast Serving
As usual, the Grace community is “on” to serve the Sunday morning breakfast of biscuits and gravy on Sunday, January 5. Anyone who would like to help is encouraged to show up in the church kitchen by 6:30 am. During the month of January, we give thanks to God for the partnership of the following congregations who will serve: Trinity Cathedral, Kaleo, Desert Cross Lutheran Church, and Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church.

Grace Vine: November 2019
Sermon: 11/3/2019
On this All Saints Sunday, we may be tempted to see a life of faith as something won or lost. We may hear Jesus’ words from the gospel of Luke, words about non-violence and love for enemies, words that challenge us, and we may wonder if we will ever win, if we will ever attain the spiritual heights of those who have gone before us: a beloved grandmother, an exemplary Sunday school teacher, a saint who showed us unconditional love or acceptance.
