Having heard Jesus’ parable, I want you to hear the following loud and clear: Money and even wealth are not the problem.

Partnership spotlight: ELCA World Hunger Program
We give thanks to God for the partnership of the ELCA World Hunger program! This year, we applied for and received a 3-year grant (2019-2021) from the ELCA World Hunger program to fund the salary of our Sunday morning social worker, Jeff Jirak, as well as fund up to four Sundays of pancake breakfast groceries.
June Community Building Goal
Every 5th Sunday, ONE Worship Service at 9:30 am
We want to bring our community together on the fifth Sundays of the month, and on Sunday, June 30, we will worship together at ONE service at 9:30 am in the sanctuary. On the next fifth Sunday of the month, we will worship at 9:30 am in Hope Hall. Moving into the future, we will switch spaces back and forth but remain at the same time each fifth Sunday: 9:30 am.
The council hopes that, by worshiping together, we might bridge the two worshiping communities so that we get to know people who normally worship at the other service.
Tithe.ly: A New Online Giving Option
Here at Grace, we are participating in Tithe.ly to reduce the cost of online giving. To sign up, go to www.graceinthecity.com/donate. On the donations page of our website, you click on either one of the “give” buttons and then fill out the online form with either your credit card or bank account information.
This program is similar to PayPal but less expensive and used only by churches. Thank you for giving to Grace!
Transportation Donations
Thanks to our friends at Good Life RV for collecting and donating bicycles to people in need at Grace. Most of the donated bicycles are road ready. A special thanks to Lester, Grace Caretaker, for tuning up some of these bikes.
Please connect with Grace Lutheran Church if you have a bicycle that you would like to recycle.

Meet Clottee Hammons, Heat Respite Coordinator
Clottee A. Hammons grew up in the segregated downtown Phoenix area and is the granddaughter of a 10th Calvary Buffalo Soldier. She views that legacy with pride and a strong sense of social responsibility.
Ms. Hammons’ organization Emancipation Arts resides at Phoenix Center for the Arts. She is a Visual Artist, Curator, Writer, Poet, Activist, Educator and Prevention Specialist.
2019 Heat Respite volunteering
Very often good-intentioned people are overwhelmed by the magnitude of need in our community but do not know where to start. The Summer Respite Program accepts every volunteer with the knowledge that everyone has strengths, skills and love that can benefit others and themselves in ways that none of us can even imagine.
In advance we thank all volunteers and participants in the Summer Respite Program. 2019 Heat Respite will begin on June 10 and run until August 30. We will serve breakfast and lunch each day; we will also provide snacks and plenty of water for anyone looking to find shelter from the heat during 9:00 am—5:00 pm.

Join us for this informative yet casual community event. All people are welcome.
Grace Buddies
For this ministry, Grace partnered with Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest to provide a monthly morning of fun for foster children. We are looking to start this ministry back up after the summer. If you are interested in taking on a volunteer leadership position, please reach out to Pastor Sarah. We need assistance with marketing, flyer development, and some of the administrative coordinating. Thank you!
Soul Journey Notes of Encouragement
Please help encourage this year’s Soul Journeyers as they travel to Holden Village in Washington State. The Soul Journeyers will receive notes from their families and YOU throughout their trip. Please write a note to at least one of the following people letting them know what you appreciate about them and/or how you see God at work in their lives.
